Baseball Drops Two to West Chester

BLOOMSBURG -The Bloomsburg University baseball team lost a pair of games to 11th ranked West Chester on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies fell in game one by a score of 13-7 and lost game two 11-7.

In game one, the Huskies tied the game when Tony Donofry (Newtown/Council Rock North) singled in Kevin Ward (Clifton Heights/Monsignor Bonner) to make the score 1-1 after one inning. From there, West Chester would take advantage of a big fourth inning to go up 10-1 through three and a half innings. Bloomsburg responded in the bottom of the fourth when Bill Phillips (Shalola/Delaware Valley) hit a two-run home run to cut the West Chester lead to 10-3. Chris Haagen (New Britain/CB West) and Jarrod Kramer (Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) added RBI singles to keep within striking distance, but West Chester scored three fore in the sixth and seventh to secure the victory. Phillips finished the game 2-3 with three RBI. Mitch Troy (Elkton, MD/Cecil Coll.) (4-5) took the loss for the Huskies.

In game two, The Huskies took a 1-0 lead in the first thanks to an RBI single by Kramer, but a six-run second inning for West Chester left the Huskies in a 6-2 hole after one and a half.

Bloomsburg scored three runs in the bottom of the second to cut the lead to 6-4 after two. Trailing 8-4 in the bottom of the fourth, Donofry hit a two-run home run to cut the WCU lead to two, but that was as close as the Huskies would come. West Chester would outscore Bloomsburg 3-1 the rest of the way to pick up the victory. Donfory led the way for the Bloomsburg offense, scoring three runs and driving in two. Mike Rossetti (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) (1-4) took the loss for Bloomsburg.

With the losses, Bloomsburg falls to 14-28, 5-19 in the PSAC East.

Bloomsburg returns to action on Saturday with a trip to Indiana (Pa.). The doubleheader gets underway at 1:00 p.m.
